Abstract: Therapeutic Strategy of Mandibular Condylar Factures – Usefulness of the Combination of Open Reduction and Dynamic Distraction Treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
PURPOSE: Although condyle is one of the frequent site of fracture in the mandible, anatomical and functional complexity of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) make the treatment policy of mandibular condyle fracture controversial. 2,3 Watanabe et al. reported a novel treatment for mandibular condylar fractures: a dynamic distraction treatment. 4 This application of a dynamic internal distraction device is an effective and minimally invasive treatment; however, in our substantial experience on dynamic distraction treatment, we occasionally encounter rare cases in which resulted insufficient reduction of the fractured bony fragments. The purpose of this study is to investigate our clinical cases retrospectively, and establish a novel therapeutic strategy of mandibular condyle fracture.

ABSTRACT Mandibular condyle fractures are relatively common. Because of longterm morbidity of temporomandibular joint dysfunction and ankylosis, correct management of these fractures are very important. The contraversy between closed and open approaches, has not yet been solved in the management of these fractures. In this article, we reviewed 302 cases of mandibular fractures since 19...

UNLABELLED Although various aspects of bone formation during distraction osteogenesis have been studied extensively, there are only limited experimental data concerning the influence of hyper-physiologic mandibular distraction rate on structural alterations in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condylar cartilage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of bilateral distraction oste...
متن کاملOutcomes of surgical versus nonsurgical treatment of mandibular condyle fractures
The mandible is the largest and strongest of the facial bones. Mandibular bone fracture is the tenth most common fracture in the human body and second most of the facial bones next only to nasal bones. Among the mandibular bone fractures, condylar region is the most frequent site accounting for about 25-35 %. 1 Condylar fractures are usually the result of a direct blow to the chin or to the lat...
متن کاملCurrent Concepts in the Mandibular Condyle Fracture Management Part II: Open Reduction Versus Closed Reduction
In the treatment of mandibular condyle fracture, conservative treatment using closed reduction or surgical treatment using open reduction can be used. Management of mandibular condylar fractures remains a source of ongoing controversy in oral and maxillofacial trauma. For each type of condylar fracture, the treatment method must be chosen taking into consideration the presence of teeth, fracture...
